Wii Are In!

wii.jpgFor months we have been desperately trying to purchase a Nintendo Wii.  They have been so hard to find! This boggles my mind for many reasons- mainly, with the economy supposedly being so bad, how are all these people affording Wiis?  Secondly, they are pretty pricey and once you get one, you want to buy extra controllers, games, etc.  Trust me.

I have been hounding Target, Costco, Meijer, and basically every other store around here that sells them.  Last week I got a hold of someone from Target that told me that they may be getting a shipment on Saturday night.  Sunday morning at 10 AM I remembered and called.  They still had them in stock.  I sent Mr. Money up to the store to purchase one.  He called me from the store and asked me if I wanted him to get the Wii Fit ($90).  I told him it was up to him because we were spending all that money on a Wii and if he felt like it was a good decision to go for it.  He ended up buying it.

Of course I feel guilty over this purchase for many reasons.  We could have taken that money (it was actually Mr. Money’s bonus money from Christmas) and put it towards reducing debt.  We are now being more ‘consumeristic’ than I want to be.  I hate that it uses electricity when we try to reduce our consumption as part of living green.  These are all negative things I could focus on, but instead I’m going to focus on some positive things.

First and foremost, now that I have the Wii Fit, I won’t be as tempted to buy that treadmill.  I know it’s not going to be the same workout, but at least it will keep me moving and entertained.  Not only is that money saved there, but it’s also precious space (and me not going crazy from clutter) saved in the house.  The Wii will give us entertainment, which will reduce our urge to go out to eat, shopping, to the movies, etc.  We rarely do those activities anyway, but now we’ll have something we can do together.

Lastly, I believe that without spending money every once in awhile on something you want that you will truly use you won’t be happy.  I’m not saying you have to spend money all the time to enjoy life, but if I’m miserable with $$$$$$ in the bank, what’s the point?

I’m glad we got it.  I’m thankful that Mr. Money earned his bonus money so that we were able to afford it.

What is something you spent money on and really enjoyed lately?

I go through the exact same though processes. In the end, what is the point of saving money if not to spend it on something we enjoy. Have fun with the Wii, we don’t have one yet cause we have more games than we can play already.

    I don’t own a wii thinger. :D
I kinda don’t understand it either. It’s a video game thing you can exercise with?

Miss M- I love playing board games. I think those are great too. I can’t believe I fell prey to the Wii! ;)

Squawkfox- It’s a video game console that you can play video games on but there is a fitness game that teaches you yoga, strength training, aerobics, and balance. It’s entertaining at least! :)

I bought the family a Wii for Christmas with my bonus money. My wife was laid off in December. But you know what? We all play together, we are NOT sitting on the couch to play, and we LOVE it!!! It is not the idiot box that Playstation and the others are where you just sit there – with Wii you have to MOVE!

Bob- I think that’s the best part- I’m getting up and doing something versus just sitting around. I love it!
