That is so neat! I would love a dual flush toilet. I think it is such a great idea. I think new buildings should include them so people would get used to them. I think it’s funny that we’re the “most advanced country” but yet these simple things don’t fly here. Stupid!

I wanted to add ‘eco friendly’! I think a lot of the things people do to save money are eco friendly. I should add that next time it applies!

I LOVE the idea of a composting toilet and I’m so glad you like it too! I think a lot of people are scared by the idea. Everyone has to go!

That’s what I think. Especially if you drink a lot of water, there is no smell or anything. I always rush to check and make sure we have flushed when we have company!

I did this as a kid when my immigrant family moved over to the US. We had like 10 people living in a small apartment (I suppose that was what it can be considered as) and they always had this rule. We had one bathroom and basically everyone would go #1 and we would flush it in the morning, or something to that extent. As a kid, I didn’t really care, but as a teenager, (after moving out of that place and into a house) I thought it was extremely disgusting so I always flushed when I used the bathroom. However, nowadays, I kind of half-n-half it. If my pee isn’t really yellow, I’ll just let it sit, but otherwise I’ll flush it.

BTW, they have these cool dual flush toilets now that have different options for flushing. If it’s just liquid waste, it’ll flush with less water, and more water for solid waste. It’s pretty neat, but definitely not frugal. I think they run pretty pricey. There’s also low flow toilets, but honestly, I don’t really like them because I don’t think they work very well for number twos.

Is there an “eco friendly” option for voting? :-) During the Midwest flooding of June 2008, I did this along with my family. They were actually required to do this because of the major flooding and water problems the city was having. My town wasn’t required to do this, but I felt like I was somewhat helping to ease the strain. I’m definitely interested in composting toilets and would like to do some more research into it – they’re probably pretty expensive as with many “green” products nowadays.

Chris, I appreciate your honesty! We have used a plastic water bottle in one toilet to reduce the water usage. It really helps!

While I do understand how this does save some money, but are ways to reduce your toilet’s water usage instead of going to this extreme. At first I wasn’t going to vote either way but the more I think about it. It’s cheap! BUT if it’s morning time and you & your spouse are getting up & ready for work and you both just need to “make yellow”- one person right after the other, then the last one should flush.
