Pot, Meet Kettle

Sometimes I feel like a huge hypocrite for getting further into debt while we were working so hard to pay off our student loans. Sure, when our car broke, I could have bought a cheaper car, but if I had spent $7000 on a used Focus, but it wouldn’t have worked out for us. We needed something that we could haul our dogs around in and hopefully future kiddos too. The truth is I still beat myself up about spending that much money on a vehicle.

I think as a personal finance blogger I am much more aware of how much I spend and am more analytical. I worry about spending too much money, not saving enough for retirement, and not paying of debt fast enough. It almost feels like I’m in the spotlight as far as my finances go. On the other hand, having the accountability is awesome. It makes me realize how much I’m spending and saving and how much debt I’m paying off. I think it’s great to have a network of other bloggers to follow and see their progress too.

Do you ever feel like you are more in the spotlight with sharing your finances online?

I have a Focus! It has been a good car to us, but it’s really small in the backseat especially.

We have Johnny’s car seat in the middle right now. Later this week, I’m watching my friend’s son and his seat will be in there, too. I’ll need to move Johnny’s seat to the side of course.

I’ll be interested to see how it all fits and how close I’ll have to have the front seat.

I’m hoping that it isn’t tooo bad. I do think that we’ll have to get a bigger vehicle whenever baby #2 comes around. Maybe. We’ll see.

Back to your original point. Yeah, I feel like I have to be more careful with my finances both online and what I do in real life, especially around others who read my blog. I feel like it’s a good thing — keeps me accountable!

Oh I hope you don’t think I was saying bad things about the Focus! I love them and I still want one! The BIGGEST problem for us was that we have two labs and they wouldn’t fit in the backseat. :) That would be a mess! I love love love to Focus!

I am glad I started my blog anonymously. Sometimes I want to tell friends and family about it but I haven’t. I don’t really want them knowing about it. Of course, I try to keep things so that if they DID find it, I wouldn’t have to eat my words!

  2. That’s why I chose the pen name Mrs. Accountability. I hoped it would help to keep me accountable. Sometimes life gets in the way, and things happen, and sometimes it’s hard to keep up with our finances. I am a couple weeks behind again and annoyed with myself over it! Going to see Pioneer Woman the other night, and not getting home until 1am really wore me out, but I wouldn’t have missed it for anything!
