I have been making my own liquid laundry soap for 3 months now. I have shared the recipe with several of my friends. They all agree it is the best thing since sliced bread! I make a 5 gallon batch. Including the soap scent that I add the total cost to make it is around $6.50. The soap scent is the most expensive ingredient and it is totally unnessasary. I just like the way it smells.

I've never done powdered, but I'm sure it works just as well. ;) The stain remover sounds awesome! Do you have a recipe you would like to share? Thanks!

I have also made my own laundry detergent, but I prefer to make it in the powder form. It is quick and easy to make. I use my food processor and can make up a batch in a matter of minutes. I wish I had done this years ago. I've also started making my own stain remover using vinegar, ammonia, and dishwashing liquid.

Mommie- It works out to between 1 cent and 3 cents a load. I think it's great savings!! I just had a ton of fun making it.

Todd- I'm going to be posting other recipes for homemade cleaning products soon- be sure to come back! :)

That is really cool, however, my wife (who up to this point, allows me to stay blissfully ignorant of the clothes beautification process) already has her favorite, semi-frugal detergent. Are there other concoctions that work as well ? A Windex substitute? Or, an aesthetically pleasing alternative to patches for resurrecting all of the childrens' jeans with holes in the knees? The savings on the laundry soap seems pretty awesome, and I don't need to fund more commercials.

Are you serious? This is crazy cool! Lol, I would never have thought of doing this. What's the $$ savings on this, I might check it out. I make my own everything, this might need to be added.

Hi Skolor! I'm going to be expanding on this - adding recipes for making your own bread, dish washing detergent, etc. Stick around! Thanks for the comment! :)

That is crazy cool. I would have never thought of doing something like making my own detergent. Any thoughts on extending this to other things? Dish soap, dish washer soap, that kind of stuff?
