K- I have found the same thing about the stylists! I enjoy the ones that just got out of school- they seem to be up on the styles! I love Great Clips. I do my hubby’s hair too. That’s awesome that you have saved that much over the years!

I used to go to the salon because that’s how I grew up. It was normal for my mom to drop $30 on a child’s haircut. After blowing that much when I was in college and had no money, I learned my lesson. I go to Great Clips at Walmart, both back home in the city and here in a small town. I find that the stylists there are younger, hipper, and listen better because they’re trying to establish themselves. For $20 I get my brows done and a cut/style every 4-6 months. My mom and younger sister have had more “oh crap” moments with their regular stylists than I’ve had at GC.

As far as the hubby, I do his hair. I purchased a Wahl trimmer set at Walmart for $35 after two $40 grooming sessions for our Cocker Spaniel. Hubby saw the receipt and freaked out, thinking it was a costly mistake. Over the course of two years, I’ve cut both his hair and the dog’s fur enough to pay for the trimmers probably 6 times over. :-)

Financialbondage.org- How often do you have to get your hair cut? My coworkers get on me because I only go to places like Great Clips to get my hair cut and they think I should go to a salon. :/

Emily- Ohh I love Aveda schools! There is one in Ann Arbor, Michigan that I love to go to when I am up there! It feels so nice to get pampered there and not get charged an arm and a leg!

I have tried home cuts and find that the $15 cuts at the Aveda school (done by students) 4 times a year fit my frugal desire plus desire to look mildly pulled together. Emphasis on the word mildly.
