Cheap or Frugal?

FacebooktwitterpinterestFacebooktwitterpinterest

I’ve decided I’m going to try a fun little game called “Cheap or Frugal?” that you all can play. It’s easy, quick, and hopefully tons of fun.  I’m going to pose the age-old question “is this cheap or frugal?” and allow you to decide.  Depending on the popularity, this may be a new feature at the Ultimate Money Blog.

Here’s the first round:

When this couple goes out to eat at a restaurant (fast food, sit down, basically any), they only order one drink and share it. VOTE NOW!

Cheap or Frugal?
Cheap!
Frugal!

I’m interested to see your opinion. If you have a question you’d like to have spotlighted here, please comment, or email me at ultimatemoneyblogATgmail.com.

It depends on where you’re doing this. At a self-service restaurant, it’s frugal and I wouldn’t think twice. In a sit down restaurant, it’s cheap and the waiter would not be unjustified in charging for two drinks if they have to refill twice as often.

I had to vote frugal because when my husband and I are eating fast food on the go, we often split an extra large soda. I even think it’s more eco-friendly because it reduces the cup and straw waste. At a nice sit-down dinner, though? It wouldn’t cross my mind.

We usually don’t buy pop at restaurants unless I’m getting paid to do so (mystery shopping). Not only is it expensive but also unhealthy, so the majority of the time we get water. I’ve shared at sit down restaurants before and felt bad about it – the waiter glaring at you if you order refills. You can get in trouble for sharing if you keep getting refills – I should say, they will charge you for two drinks if you keep asking for refills. It’s happened to us once. At a fast food joint where you get one drink on the go (no refills) we definitely share. Drink sizes are so big nowadays that two people can easily share a small (aka medium).

I voted frugal, but only at a fast food place. At a sit down restaurant we order separate drinks but if it comes in a paper cup with a straw from a person asking can I take your order, we’ll split it.

FB- I prefer water too. Sometimes I’ll take a few sips of my hubby’s drink, but that’s about it. Soda is so bad for you!

Elliott- I agree with you. I hate when servers don’t get the tip they deserve!

ab- I think it’s eco friendly too. I hate all the plastic that is generated from restaurants!

Kristin- I don’t order soda out either. My hubby likes it and orders it every once in awhile. Mostly he orders iced tea. 🙂

Miss M- I’m with you on that!

I do this all the time! I think it’s pointless to order two drinks at fast food places, because most of them have open soda fountains.

And I just can’t do it at restaurants. I can’t order two drinks when they are almost $3 each!

I should also mention.. That I wouldn’t do this at a “fancy” restaurant. I’m talking Applebee’s kind of restaurants. And I do order a water for myself to drink as well. I don’t guzzle down my husband’s soda. I steal sips from him every now and then.

I agree with you 100% on this. I don’t like drinking a lot of soda, so a few sips are fine with me!
