cc.jpgI’ve received a few requests for the candy cane sugar scrub recipe after posting about my Christmas gifts. I made some of this last weekend, and it is AMAZING.  Of course, if you don’t like peppermint you won’t like it!  I doubled the recipe because I have a lot of women to give to!

Ingredients
1 cup granulated white sugar
6 candy canes, finely crushed almost into a powder
1/2 cup sweet almond oil (or olive oil)
1/2 teaspoon vitamin E oil (optional – used as a preservative)
1 teaspoon cocoa butter (optional)
6 drops peppermint essential oil

Instructions
Mix all ingredients until well blended. I took and broke up my candy canes in a food processor first, and then combined all the ingredients together.  I also left out the cocoa butter.  It worked out really well; works fabulously and smells yummy!

  1. Oh, I’m totally making this. I just need the candy canes and oils. Are the oils expensive? (not the olive oil, I have that… but oddly enough I don’t have peppermint essential oil on hand)

The peppermint essential oil was under $5 for 1/2 oz here and I got it at the health food store. I am thinking maybe your local grocery store might have it in the health/beauty aisle. I think ours does. It’s one of the most common essential oils. It probably would be fine without it too if you don’t get it. The candy canes are pretty fragrant. You could use more of those! :)

I’ve saved the recipe for next year, I’m going to be so prepared! My co-worker suggests rubbing peppermint oil on your temples when you have a headache, if you have extra.

That is a great idea! I will have to try that. I love the smell of the peppermint oil. This scrub is so yummy I want to eat it. :)

This may sound elementary, but what are the directions for use? Do you wet your skin, rub it on and rinse?

    Thanks!

I am making this as christmas gifts! I have four questions!

    1. Won’t the oils melt the sugar??

    2. Won’t the candy canes make your body sticky?

    3. How long does this stay good and does it need to be refridgerated?

    4. Can you use some kind of other moisturizing oil, like Jojoba oil?

  7. Great idea! And very innovative use of Candy Canes too. My wife would love this.
