Better than Starbucks Chai Tea Recipe

mugOne of my favorite things about fall is the warm, yummy drinks.  Some apple cider, hot chocolate, or especially a Starbucks Chai Tea make me swoon.  Unfortunately, we all know how expensive Starbucks is, so I don’t get it all the time.  When I was really craving it this afternoon, I decided I would try my hand at making it this afternoon.  OMG it was AMAZING.  If you like chai tea, please try out this recipe!  I think it’s better than Starbucks chai tea.

3 cups milk (I used organic 2% milk but next time will try soy)
3 cups water
7 black tea bags (you can use decaf too)
1/2 cup honey
1 tsp ground cinnamon
1 tsp ground cardamom
1/2 tsp ground nutmeg
1/2 tsp ground cloves (I grated mine from whole ones)
1/2 tsp ground ginger

Mix all spices in a bowl.

Mix the water and milk in a pot, put it on the stove, and heat to just below boiling.  Add in the honey, made sure it dissolves, and let it incorporate for a minute.  Next, dump in your spices and tea.  Remove from heat and let steep for 3-5 minutes. Pour your tea into a French Press* (love this!!), push the top down, and strain into a pitcher.  If you don’t have a french press, you can use a strainer.  Enjoy!

It’s really not too hard to make, and it is seriously fabulous!

What’s your favorite fall drink?

Your chai sounds delicious! Can I make a recommendation that you research a bit into soy, check http://www.westonaprice.org/soy/index.html. “Soy phytoestrogens disrupt endocrine function and have the potential to cause infertility… .” Anyway, I have a whistle teapot and love to make herb tea. I have a recipe for hot cocoa from scratch… I should share that recipe on my blog. Hey, I found some candy canes, I’m going to try that candy cane scrub you shared last year.

Umm I don’t need anything that will affect my fertility! ;) I will try rice or almond milk with it. Yum! Let me know how you like the scrub!

Well drinking tea is somehow connected to culture, and I’m one of them… I drink more tea than coffee :) Thanks for the receipt, I love tea with milk…
