2010 Financial Goals

Happy New Year! It’s time to set 2010 Financial Goals! I know it’s hard to believe, but it’s really here.

Here are my financial goals for 2010:

This year I’d like to pay off at least $3,500 off the principal of my mortgage.  Last year I aimed for making one extra payment a year and that didn’t work out.

I want to bump my contribution up to 10%.  Right now I contribute 8% and I want to put more in for 2010!

Car Loan

I want to PAY OFF the car this year!  I know this is definitely attainable, and I hope I can do it in the first quarter!  When I pay this off, we will be completely debt free!  Woo!

Come up with a good budget and actually stick with it!

Keep tossing money into savings accounts!

I know these goals are ones we can actually accomplish, that’s why I set them!

What goals did you set for 2010?

Good luck! I think all of your goals are well within reach and worthy of your time.

Thanks! I thought they may be low but I’d rather shoot too low and accomplish them then fail like I did on some last year!

These are great goals! I am terrible at saving money and the only thing I currently do is contribute 8% to my 401K. This year, I have challenged myself to save 1/3 of my current salary in addition to my 401k. I currently have a ton of credit card debt and figure I need to cancel this out firtst. Any tips on how I can reach my goal?

I would sit down and figure out exactly how much you owe on each credit card and then make a plan to pay off as much as you can each month. How many credit cards do you have?

At the beginning of 2009 I started with two cards. By the end, I had close to ten. I have made a ton of new year’s resolutions that I am documenting in my blog in hope that I will have to be accountable to anyone reading it. Saving money is going to be the most difficult (I think)

Are you better with cash? I would suggest trying to go cash only if that’s something that would work for you. Personally, if I have cash I spend it. Let me know if you want me to help you figure out how to pay off your credit cards. 🙂 I’ll be happy to help!

I have very similar goals on my blog. My husband and I just read Dave Ramsey Total Money Makeover and it is AWESOME. So inspirational and for the first time ever gave me hope about money. We sat down yesterday and put a real budget together. It feels good to work towards financial fitness. If you want to check out my blog post about this please do. I would love to hear your thoughts. http://thismamaworksit.com/2010/01/01/my-new-years-goals-skinny-jeans-and-a-fat-wallet/

Way to go MM, if we set our sights too high it can have the opposite effect and discourage us because we get behind.

Since these goals are attainable for you I expect nothing less than success for you in 2010 and will also be expecting to see your 2010 success report this time next year! 😉
