Organic Pesticide Recipe Recall

DO NOT USE THIS RECIPE. This is not a good recipe. I apologize in advance for posting it without testing, but I told you I’d update you with results, and I can assure you it’s NO GOOD. I thought the collards were bad yesterday, but I am much happier with holey collards than no collards at all! Here’s a comparison. Yesterday. Today.   Needless to say, don’t make the same mistake I did.  I’m hoping that my swiss chard and collard greens will come back to life.  I’m going to be heartbroken if they don’t.  Now I need to find a real recipe for a good organic pesticide.  Anyone have any ideas?

Organic Pesticide Recipe

<s>I know this sounds like an oxy moron, but I promise you it’s not.  We planted our garden this spring a little late, and now I’ve got some collard greens coming up but the bugs seem to have been enjoying them a little too much.  While I love all fuzzy creatures, I love my food even more.  Especially food I’ve put energy and time into. So I did what I normally do when I have a problem.  Call my mom!  She gave me the low down on the organic pesticide.  It’s easy, fun to make, and works well (so she says).  We’ll see; I just sprayed my plants. Here’s the recipe: 1 chopped onion 5 cloves garlic 1 quart warm water 3 Tablespoons castile soap (I used Dr. Bronner’s liquid) Blend garlic, onion, and water in blender.  DO NOT BLEND SOAP.  I made this mistake, and needless to say I had stinky onion/garlic soap water all over the kitchen!  When this is blended well, pour in soap and swish around to incorporate.  Leave overnight to steep.  Do not leave more [...]

Help Save the Environment- Have a Quickie!

It’s summer time, and what better way to celebrate than with a quickie?  A quickie in the shower, that is.  Sorry; I couldn’t resist.  From June 15-July 15 I am challenging you to taking a quickie shower.  Why?  Because saving water saves money and the environment!  Awesome! Here are some tips to get you started: 1. Take a “Navy shower”.  Less than 5 minutes, and turn the water off while you are soaping up (your body and shampooing). 2. Take a kitchen timer into the bathroom with you.  Leave it far from the shower and set it for 5 minutes.  When those 5 minutes are up, you’ll be racing out of the shower to turn that timer off! 3. Take a bath.  I know this sounds counter intuitive, but it works for me.  I don’t fill the tub up all the way, and when I need to shave I know this definitely saves water versus shaving in the shower with it on! 4. Shower less often.  If you’re brave, you can even give up your shampoo. If you are up [...]
