Sweating my Buns Off!

Where I live, right now it is 87 degrees Fahrenheit but it feels like 95 degrees.  I’m sitting in my home office with the light turned off and the window open.  Yes, I said the window is open.  This is probably not the first time you’ve thought I am crazy.  There are many reasons I don’t have my air conditioning on at this moment. -It saves electricity and lowers my carbon footprint (all about saving the world, yo!) -It saves me money on my electric bill (heck yeah) -We enjoy having fresh air in our home. -I enjoy pretending I’m Amish (ok, not really) We’ve been doing many things to keep cool so far.  We relax on the front porch with a book on the swing, play in the kiddie pool with the dogs, and even have quickies. There’s nothing like a cool shower when you’ve been out gardening or playing with the pooches.  If it gets to the point where it’s unbearable, you better believe I’m turning the AC on.  There’s no sense in me sweating my buns off [...]

Spending Money Guilt

So this past weekend I had a friend (my BFF actually) come and visit me, and I decided I was going to take out $100 to cover expenses over the weekend.  I’d saved money for the occasion, and I decided that we would treat ourselves since we don’t get to spend much time together, as she lives 4 hours away.  I figured $100 would be sufficient, as our plans involved shopping, dining, and relaxing, none of which were going to break the bank.  We did end up doing all three, and I didn’t spend as much as I had planned on. I bought dinner for both of us on Friday night because I wanted to treat her, and I also bought the alcohol we purchased (pineapple rum-yum!).  Then on Saturday we went shopping at a home goods store (I didn’t buy anything), and then on to dinner at Mr. Money’s restaurant.  Throughout the whole dinner I was thinking about how we were going to pay the bill.  I knew that they would comp some of the meal (Mr. Money has [...]

Yard Sale Steals

It’s yard sale season!  I am stoked, as a lot of the subdivisions in my area are having community yard sales.  There’s nothing better than getting up early on the weekends and going to rich neighborhoods and finding steals.  This weekend I got up early and hit the road with my neighbor.  We weren’t in search for anything in particular, but we ended up finding a few gems.  Here’s my loot: For myself I got some cute clothes for $.50 each, some pajama pants for $1 each in this lovely light material for summer.  The shoes were $2. Mr. Money got the brown and blue shirt for $.50 as well, and when I brought it home he told me he didn’t need any more clothes.  I need to make sure I don’t buy him any more, even if it is a good deal. I got the fake wheat grass for $.50 as well, the throw pillows (which are real down filled!) for $3 each, and then the water pitcher filter for $3 as well.  I’ve been thinking about using the [...]
